Peanut oil is the oil from the seed, also called the nut, of the peanut plant. Peanut oil is naturally sweet and flavoured edible oil. Refined peanut oil has a light yellow color and a neutral taste. This is extracted from pressing peanut kernels. In addition to extracting the oil, peanuts are eaten raw or roasted, and used in cooking and bakery as well.
Peanut oil is very high on energy, has a very high burning and smoking point, and contains monounsaturated fats, Vitamins A, D and E.Peanut oil is high in monounsaturated “good” fat, and low in saturated “bad” fat, which is believed to help prevent heart disease and lower cholesterol.
Peanut oil is used to make medicine. It is also used to decrease appetite as an aid to weight loss. Some people use it to help prevent cancer.Groundnut oil has been found to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol without reducing the beneficial HDL (good) cholesterol.
India is one of the world's largest producers of Peanut. They account for only a small part of international trade because most of their production is consumed domestically as peanut oil.
Groundnut oil has a mild flavour, a relatively high smoke point and is resistant to rancidity - making it ideal for cooking, especially given its high content of healthful mono unsaturated oils.
